Doug, a retired high school professor, nudist, and PhD in Physics in his 70’s, is studied intimately, using the 3D sensor Kinect to capture the amazing tattoos that cover his athletic body. Having a wisdom that only comes from age, he represents a community that is fighting stereotypes and societal conventions. This is the visual component for the song “Anatema/Anathema” by Mexican cyber punk musician César Cárdenas, known as Zoonosis.
The images that compose the video are captured in the studio with the Kinect One sensor using a custom Java code by the artist in Processing 3.0, importing the Open Kinect libraries by Danny Shiffman. The sampled XYZ / RGB / luminance information is rendered in real time in a 3D environment, where the vectors are visualized by spheres, cubes, polygons, and connecting lines, depending on the aesthetic needs of the scene, seen by a floating, controllable virtual camera. The images are then exported as a TGA sequence, usually at 14 frames per second, and compiled as a non-compressed Quicktime movie in After Effects. The final edition happens in Premiere, in order to control the speed and the layering of the clips. There are no post-production filters to generate the visuals, just luma keying, color correction and traditional editing techniques.
