Lincoln Beach

An exercise on Lincoln Beach, a contaminated swimming and recreational area created during segregation for African-Americans who could not visit Pontchartrain Beach. Located in New Orleans East, and funded by Sam Zemurray of United Fruit Company –the beach is now mostly occupied by Latin American immigrants who have been pushed out of the center of the city towards the East, just like African-Americans decades before. Sam Zemurray is known for disruption of political landscapes in Honduras and Mexico, among other places. I find it interesting that someone who brought many Latin American immgrants to New Orleans for labor was the one to promote this beach that ultimately is a cultural site for the intersection of the black and brown community present-day.
